Reduce Eye Strain With These Essential Tips

In today's modern world technology has become an integral part of our daily lives. People are spending an increasing amount of time on their laptops, iPhones, computers, iPads and tablets. Excessive close-up work has resulted in an increase in eye strain, tension and stress in the eyes. Therefore, if you are concerned about eye strain and are searching for solutions to alleviate this vision problem, here are a series of stress relieving eye care tips to help you accomplish this goal.

One of the major concerns that computer users have is how to deal with a condition called CVS, (Computer Vision Syndrome). According to The American Optometric Association, this condition is characterized by symptoms such as eye strain, headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes and neck and shoulder pain.Consult your eye care physician to determine the correct diagnosis. Here are some solutions to reduce this problem:
Reduce The Lighting: The lighting in your environment may be too bright. Reduce the lighting in your environment to a level that is more natural and more tolerable to your eyes. A simple change that you can make is to replace high wattage bulbs with lower ones.

Practice Eye Relaxation Techniques: Increase the amount of time that you devote to looking around at distant objects in the room instead of just focusing on just one particular near point object for a long period of time. Take 30 minute periodic breaks to do this. The benefit of eye strain relieving techniques is that there is a relationship between distant vision and a reduction in eye strain. This is due to the fact that distant vision is the natural state of the eyes which is also a state of relaxation.

Scientific research suggests that people who spend a longer period of time staring at a near point object such as a computer, have a tendency to blink less. Blinking is important as it stimulates the production of natural tear fluid and moisture in the eyes. This can reduce the symptoms of both dry eye and eye strain. Try this Slow Blinking technique: Focus on a distant object, for example, a window or a picture on the wall and blink your eyes slowly as you maintain your focus on that object. Then, pause for a few seconds with your eyes open as you inhale and exhale deeply. Keep alternating and repeating this process a few times, (distant object, slow blinking), (open eyes, inhale/exhale). Perform this technique whenever you are engaged in close up activities. This is an effective technique that can reduce eye strain.

Nutritionists recommend a high quality Omega - 3 Fatty Acid supplement. The benefits of this vitamin include a stimulation of the eye's natural tear production fluid and eye moisture throughout the day. This in turn can reduce the symptoms of dry eye.

We live in a digital world that predisposes us to engage in visual habits that lead to eye strain. This requires a natural solution to address the root causes of vision problems such as CVS and it's associated symptoms such as eye strain, headaches, dry eyes and blurred vision. By incorporating simple changes into our lifestyles conducive to our eye health, in addition to the right nutrition, we can alleviate the vision problems associated with eye strain.

Do You Suffer From Chronic Otitis? 3 Tips to Help Avoid Repeat Infections

Otitis externa is a painful condition in which the ear canal becomes inflamed and itchy due to an infection. It can be incredibly uncomfortable and lead to discharge and dulled hearing. The problem can last for months or become recurrent.

Causes of Chronic Otitis
There are several possible causes of chronic otitis which include:
- Damage to the Canal and External Ear
- Using Ill-Fitting or Shared Earplugs
- Regular Swimming
- Sensitivity to Soap or Shampoo
- A Build-Up of Ear Wax
- Narrow Ear Canal
- A Skin Condition Such as Dermatitis or Psoriasis

Treatment can involve traditional painkillers, antibiotics or ear drops which contain steroids, antibiotics or antifungals. If the ear is too swollen for eardrops to be inserted then an ear wick may be used.

Preventing Chronic Otitis
So what can you do to avoid getting repeat infections of the external ear and ear canal? Here are three tips to help you prevent this painful ear infection.

1. Do Not Clean Your Ears with Cotton Buds
The danger of using cotton buds to clean your ears is that you can end up pushing wax further into your ear which will irritate your ear canal and lead to infection.

Ear wax is needed by the ear to protect and moisturise the ear canal to prevent infection and dryness. Pushing it back into the ear or removing too much of it can all lead to infection. If you feel that you suffer from too much wax then you should consult your doctor or pharmacist who will give you drops and advice.

2. Do Not Allow Soap or Shampoo to Go into Your Ears
These chemical based solutions can cause further irritation and could result in a flare-up of chronic otitis.

3. Use Moulded Earplugs
Using earplugs when showering, bathing or swimming will help prevent water from entering your ears.

Moulded earplugs are the best ones to use as they are moulded to the shape of your particular ear so they will not irritate or fall out, instead they will provide an effective seal against the water.

ZenPlugs earplugs are also coated with an antibacterial compound to further fight off harmful bacteria.

The treatment for chronic otitis may help ease a current infection but prevention is always better than a cure. So if you want to nip chronic otitis in the bud, follow our three handy tips for healthy and happy ears.

ZenPlugs Custom Molded Ear Plugs are superb at protecting against otitis externa as they are comfortable and effective at blocking sea water and soap from your ears. Tips for Overcoming Your Anxiety

A mistake we all make whilst going through anxiety & panic attacks is that we are constantly fighting the sensations. The smallest of things is setting us off and making us panic.

'Do not run away from fear. Analyse it and see that it is no more than a physical feeling. Do not be bluffed by a physical feeling.' - 'Self Help For Your Nerves' - Dr Claire Weekes

This can sound daunting at first and maybe even seem impossible to accomplish! But the second you stop running from fear and just let it happen, you will feel better and be on your way to recovery.

Accept yourself for how you are, know that you will get worried, but don't let it stop you doing things you want to do.

Just the other day I was asked to go along with a friend to pick up a table & chairs. I quickly rushed together and locked up my house and got in the truck to go.

By the time we had got no more than 200 meters from the house, I was terrified, my chest felt tight, I felt dizzy, like I was going to die. But when I stop & remind myself, there is nothing wrong with any of these sensations, they cannot hurt me. In fact, they are the very things that are keeping me alive in some cases.

Panic attacks can NOT physically hurt you. Think back to any anxiety or panic attack you have had and realise that you are still here today to tell the tail. Anxiety and panic will NOT rule your life!

I found that also knowing that when you panic, adrenaline is released into your blood stream, the rush will last 3 minutes, its only a chemical reaction, nothing to worry about.

So just try to remind yourself it is temporary, and it will be over within 3 minutes so long as you let it happen and don't fight it.

At first this is going to be difficult for some, don't be disheartened. Its gets easier & easier, until you don't even realise your doing it!

I live in England and used to be scared to get into a car. Now I am traveling and am currently in Australia!

Remember, you can get through this with a little help. Don't try to overcome this by yourself, many people deal with anxiety every day.

You're not alone,
Stay strong.
